Any time I can spend with my clients capturing their exciting life events is a privilege, but today was even more so for me.  I got to do an engagement session with my brother Carlen & Amy, his beautiful fiancee.  They have quite a unique and beautiful story…

Carlen was born and raised here in beautiful Saskatchewan, and Regina has been his home since he was very young. Amy was born and raised in Australia! You may find yourself wondering (as many have asked me) “How on earth did they meet?” Well, those of you who have followed my blog over the past year may already know that I went to Uganda, Africa with my siblings last June. We went to visit our parents who were living and volunteering there for the year. My sister and I met Amy on our first day in Uganda, at the babies’ home where we were volunteering. Carlen was planning to work with my dad, fixing things- you know, manly stuff. After being at the babies’ home for one day, we were adamant that he had to come and check it out. Like most twenty-something guys, Carlen did not have much experience with babies, and it took some convincing to get him to come, as the lure of delicious African babies didn’t have the same effect on him as it did for us girls. Carlen gave in and agreed to come for one day, but on that one day, he met Amy. Next thing we knew, we couldn’t get him to stop coming, and Carlen was excited to hang out with the babies every day… It didn’t take a genius to figure out that lovely Aussie Amy was a large part of why! Carlen went from awkwardly trying to play with 2 year olds, to taking some of the smallest babies for walks in a Baby Bjorn- oh, and it just so happened Amy was there too.

By the time we left Africa at the beginning of July, Carlen & Amy were dating. In August, Carlen made the trek to the land down under to visit Amy. In November, Amy- brave, brave, BRAVE soul that she is- surprised Carlen when she showed up for a visit a month earlier than expected. But little did Carlen know, Amy was not only visiting, but she was moving here! Fast forward to January, and they were engaged. I’m pretty sure Carlen knew that if she was brave enough to stick out the winter that we just had, she was definitely a keeper! And, as they say, the rest is history!

Carlen & Amy, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your story, and document part of your whirlwind romance! We are SO excited to make the journey to Australia this August to celebrate with you and capture your big day down under!  Love you both!
